Root problem on buds

Hi,

        Thanks to everyone for the replies.

        Turns out I am stupid. I know; big surprise.

        I was creating a binary output file which failed. Of course I did
not check that the open worked so when I tried to write to it it
failed but the message looked as if the operator << wasn't
recognised. Sorry for the bother.
