Genya, Ernie, Defa and Abbi have investigated the SFT problems
today. Something has changed inside the SFT cavity -- the pickup signal is
smaller and the reflected power is larger. By removing an attenuator on
the pickup signal, there may be enough signal to feed back on and run the
SFT. BLAST is being run up now. Genya will set up the transitions using
the BRP, and then run for a while to see that the SFT is stable.
If the test fails, the cell and nozzle will be warmed up and the ABS will
be opened tomorrow to fix the SFT. In that case we will be down for 3 days
or so.
If the transitions are stable, we will run the experiment on polarized
deuterium. We will NOT open tomorrow to fill the superconducting
solenoids. Instead, we will run for as long as we can (Wednesday?) and
then open for a day to fill the solenoids. At that time we will also warm
up the cell and refreeze, in the hope that this improves the vacuum as
measured by ligit.
Michael found and replaced a bad HV cable on a LADS tube today (the one
that gave Eugene trouble early this morning).
Shifts are ON until further notice (which MAY be as early as
tonight). Once Genya has set up the target transitions, take data on
polarized deuterium.
