i've been looking at the newest batch of data runs that we've taken (i.e.
the false tensor asymmetry runs since july 26th). most of them were
apparently crunched using a "bad" lrn version.
the symptoms are exactly the same as they were when we had this problem
two weeks ago: runs with only one beam helciity and one target state get
crunched into multiple beam-target polarization states.
the problem is NOT in the existing "good" lrn file (a symbolic link to
which is located in the home/blast/blast/pro2003/analysis/CRUNCH/v3/
directory). i recrunched one of the "bad" data files using this lrn, and
the problems disappeared (breathe easy, chi!).
thus, i have to conclude that someone used a "bad" lrn version to crunch
most of the new files. i went looking on the blast account for such a
"bad" lrn version, but i cannot find one. thus, i am kind of mystified
what lrn was used to crunch the bad runs.
i have listed the "bad" runs chronologically below. it makes no sense to
me, because good runs are intermittently spattered between the bad ones.
IF we determine that the "bad" crunched runs did indeed come from using a
"bad" lrn version existing somewhere on the blast account, then THAT BAD
LRN FILE NEEDS TO BE REMOVED!!! it sounds nice to say, "people should
just know better", but the fact is: people don't. in fact, i can
GUARANTEE you that some people who SHOULD be reading this e-mail AREN'T;
some people will just delete this email as soon as they read the title.
as such, some people will never even realize that a data crunching problem
exists. as such only one lrn version should exist, rather than counting
on people to be aware of multiple versions of the lrn file.
the "bad" runs below are currently being re-crunched on spud8.
