Hi, guys!
As you know, the last three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) I was
supposed to continue the TOF gain-matching; on October 9th, run 2145, I
was very close to the target values written in the TOF logbook (I am
giving specifics for obvious reasons). Anyone willing can check that run.
I do not know what happened between October 9th and last Tuesday other
than some cable installation.
However, by the end of yesterday, all I was able to accomplish was to get
meaningful TDC spectra back, since some of the cables that were installed
for the TOFs were bad (I got the old ones back).
I am fully aware that the TOFs might not be gain-matched at all now (I do
not know what might cause extra attenuation for example - like a new
electronic module etc.), but since I had no way of looking at meaningful
runs in the past three days, I simply left the last - improved - values I
got before everything went crazy. Please see my previous emails about all
this - it is why I said things could be run a little more efficiently.
I know I am just a grad student and if my time is not considered very
important, that is fine (although that is not how I feel about it) -
however, in order not to waste beam time I should have been allowed to do
this fine-tuning when I was there, it would have been done by now.

PS: I got a call from Nick, as Tancredi wanted to know what the TOF
voltages were. You can either use the MySQL database to see that (as I
told Nick) or you can hook up a dumb terminal and see directly, when the
voltages are ON.
If gain-matching is attempted before Sunday morning when I will be there,
the target values are in the TOF logbook, highlighted with yellow in a
table before October 9th. The pedestal values are also there.
